Damani & Chris Starr – “A Gift That Keeps On Giving”

The gift that keeps on giving… is love! Chill out to this smooth R&B track, featured on Snoop Dogg’s Christmas In Tha Dogghouse album.

Black Spade – “Dis Christmas (W/O U)”

Here at Hip Hop Santa, there is a lot of familiarity with the classic Christmas songs. “Jingle Bells”, “Last Christmas”, and “Wonderful Christmas Time” are sampled like nobody’s business. It’s very refreshing when an artist creates an original song that captures the Christmas spirit without resorting to jingle bells as the primary instrument.

Terrace Martin – “Christmas On Soul” ft. Snoop Dogg & J. Black

Yesterday, Terrace Martin’s acclaimed album 3ChordFold received the remix treatment in the form of 3ChordFold:Remixed. Here is a b-side from that album that didn’t make the cut, but (thankfully) was released separately. “Christmas On Soul” warms up to the Christmas spirit with the “Jingle Bells” instrumental we all know and love. J-Flexx – “Party 4 Da Homies” ft. Sean “Barney” Thomas

Today we move back to the regularly scheduled program, Hip-Hop and R&B! At this point, I might just continue posting songs from Christmas On Death Row until the album is over. It’s that good! This one comes from the mysterious B.G.O.T.I. who I cannot find anything about using Google (that’s a first). Regardless, this rendition of “O Holy Night” is one of the best I can remember –

6 Feet Deep – “Frosty The Snowman”

I concede… it’s only October, but Christmas on Death Row is already getting me in the Christmas spirit. This rendition of “Frosty The Snowman” by male R&B group 6 Feet Deep is a familiar take on a classic tune. With an emphasis on the drums and a healthy dose of funk on the bass guitar,

Nate Dogg – “Be Thankful” ft. Butch Cassidy

“Be Thankful” is a slow jam off Death Row Records’ 1996 Christmas album, Christmas on Death Row. The beat is relaxing with a bit of funk thrown in and serves as a nice backdrop for Nate Dogg’s classic soulful vocals. It sounds more or less like your average Christmas slow jam, and for that reason
